Daryl Mitchell’s spectacular catch of Virat Kohli
The key moment came in the 10th over of RCB’s innings. Mitchell Santner delivered a sharp ball that drifted in and spun away from the leg stump. Kohli, attempting to whip the ball, closed the face of his bat against the turn, resulting in a thick edge. The ball soared towards long-on where Mitchell was positioned. Showing excellent composure, Mitchell kept his eyes on the ball while backpedaling, caught it initially, and realizing he was stepping onto the ropes, threw the ball up, then came back and secured it on the rebound. This spectacular effort ended Kohli’s innings and showcased Mitchell’s fielding prowess.
Despite the dismissal, Virat Kohli has been a standout performer in IPL 2024. He is currently the leading run-scorer with 708 runs in 14 matches, featuring one century and five half-centuries, solidifying his reputation as a premier batsman in the tournament.

Sent into bat, RCB started strong with skipper Faf du Plessis and Kohli sharing a 78 runs partnership for the opening stand in just 9.4 overs. Their solid foundation was established despite a brief interruption due to rain at the end of the third over. After Kohli’s departure, Rajat Patidar came in at No. 3 and scored a quick 41 off 23 balls. He partnered with Cameron Green, who remained unbeaten on 38 off 17 balls, contributing a crucial 71-run stand for the second wicket to maintain RCB’s momentum.
In the final overs, Dinesh Karthik (14 off 6 balls) and Glenn Maxwell (16 off 5 balls) played aggressive cameos, pushing RCB to a formidable score of 218/5. For CSK, Shardul Thakur was the standout bowler, although he conceded 61 runs, he managed to take two important wickets. However, CSK’s bowlers struggled to contain the aggressive batting display by RCB, resulting in a challenging target.
