The Indian Premier League (IPL) is in its 17th season in 2024, reaffirming its status as the world’s premier franchise cricket league. Since its inception in 2008, the IPL has captivated cricket fans globally with its mix of high-octane cricket, star-studded teams, and thrilling matches. The inaugural season saw Rajasthan Royals (RR) clinch the title under the leadership of late Shane Warne.
However, despite their early success, RR has struggled to reclaim the championship in subsequent years. Over the years, the IPL has witnessed various teams rising to prominence, with Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) becoming the most successful franchises, each winning five titles. The league has also been a platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills on a global stage, making it a breeding ground for future cricket stars.
IPL 2024 season: Surprises and upsets
The 2024 edition of the IPL has been nothing short of dramatic, with 2022 edition champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and defending champions CSK failing to make it to the playoffs. This season has been marked by unexpected twists and remarkable performances. The four teams that have made it to the knockout stage are Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), RR and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). RCB’s journey to the playoffs has been particularly noteworthy. After losing seven out of their first eight matches, they staged a remarkable comeback, winning six consecutive games to secure their spot in the playoffs. This turnaround has been hailed as one of the most incredible comeback stories in IPL history.

Harbhajan Singh’s finalists prediction
RCB’s resurgence this season has been driven by outstanding performances from key players and strategic decisions by the team management. Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has named RCB and KKR as the two teams he predicts will reach the final. The summit clash will take place at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 26.
Harbhajan believed that if RCB continues to play with the same energy and determination, they could very well win their first IPL title. He also anticipated an exciting clash between Virat Kohli and KKR’s team mentor, Gautam Gambhir, given their past on-field scuffles. Harbhajan’s comments highlighted the high stakes and intense rivalries that characterize the IPL, making it a thrilling spectacle for fans.
“I feel that RCB and KKR will play the final. If that happens Kohli and Gambhir will be back to face each other. RCB can win the trophy from this point, they have fought hard for each run. If they play with this energy then it will be hard to stop this team,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.
