Shreyas Iyer etched his name into the history books of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday. He led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a convincing victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2024, securing their place in the tournament’s final for the fourth time. This achievement also made Iyer the first and only captain to lead two different teams to the IPL finals.
Previously, Iyer captained Delhi Capitals (DC) to the summit clash in 2020, where they fell short against Mumbai Indians (MI).
Dominant performance by Shreyas Iyer fuels KKR victory
Iyer led from the front with a blistering knock, showcasing his red-hot form. He smashed an unbeaten 58 off just 24 deliveries, peppering the SRH bowling attack with five fours and four sixes. His innings marked his second fifty of the ongoing IPL season.
Batting with immense responsibility, Iyer ensured a smooth chase for KKR. His aggressive knock, played at a strike rate of 241.66, left the SRH bowlers with no respite. Combined with a well-composed 51 not out off 28 balls from Venkatesh Iyer, the partnership propelled KKR to an eight-wicket victory with a staggering 38 balls remaining.
