In a high-scoring encounter at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, South Africa Women emerged victorious by 12 runs against India Women.

Tazmin Brits plays a gritty knock for South Africa

Electing to bowl first in the first T20I of the three-match series, India were unable to contain a rampant South African batting display. Tazmin Brits top-scored with a brilliant 81 runs off 56 balls, peppered with 10 fours and 3 sixes. Marizanne Kapp (57 runs) and Laura Wolvaardt (33 runs) provided valuable support at the top, propelling South Africa to a formidable total of 189/4 in their 20 overs.

Pooja Vastrakar (2 wickets for 23 runs) was the pick of the Indian bowlers, while Radha Yadav conceded 40 runs to claim two scalps.

Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten knock goes in vain

Despite a valiant effort from the Indian batters, they fell short of the target. Jemimah Rodrigues (53 not out) and Smriti Mandhana (46 runs) played well, but the lack of partnerships ultimately cost India the match.

For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka, Chloe Tryon, Nadine de Klerk and Nonkululeko Mlaba grabbed a wicket each.
