The match, played at Port of Spain’s Queen’s Park Oval, began with South Africa winning the toss and choosing to bat. Holder delivered a good-length ball on his very first delivery of the over, coming over the wicket to Markram. The ball nipped back in sharply, targeting the off-stump. Markram, misjudging the line, attempted to defend but missed entirely. The ball pierced through the gap between bat and pad, smashing into the off-stump and sending Markram back to the pavilion for 9 runs off 34 balls. South Africa’s challenging start against West Indies

South Africa’s innings faced early challenges as they battled against the West Indian bowlers. With Roach and Seales testing the batters with their skillful pace, the South African openers were put under pressure as the pitch proved to be difficult to bat on. Roach’s disciplined spell beat Markram on multiple occasions, and although Markram managed to score a boundary, he struggled against the relentless bowling. Tony de Zorzi, on the other hand, looked more at ease, finding gaps and scoring boundaries. His partnership with Markram was cut short by Holder’s breakthrough.

Weather disruptions on Day 1 in Trinidad

The first day of the Test match between South Africa and the West Indies was significantly affected by Trinidad’s unpredictable weather. Only 15 overs were bowled before rain halted play, with South Africa at 45/1. The rain eventually led to an early stumps call, cutting short what had been a challenging day for the visitors.

Despite the limited play, the day highlighted the difficulties of the pitch and the quality of the West Indies bowlers. With stumps being called early due to persistent rain, the match will resume with South Africa hoping to build on their start while West Indies will be buoyed by their early success and the prospect of continued pressure on the visitors.
