Javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem etched his name in history on Thursday by becoming the first Pakistani athlete to secure an individual gold medal at the Olympics. His remarkable victory brought an end to Pakistan’s 32-year wait for an Olympic medal, with the last being a bronze won by the national hockey team in 1992 when they triumphed over the Netherlands at the Barcelona Games.

Arshad’s triumph was not only a historic milestone for Pakistan but also set a new Olympic record with an outstanding throw of 92.97 meters. The victory resonated throughout the cricketing world, especially among Pakistani cricketers, who were quick to express their admiration for this groundbreaking achievement.

Imran Khan’s commendation

Pakistan’s cricket icon and World Cup-winning captain, Imran Khan, expressed his joy and congratulated Nadeem for his extraordinary javelin performance. He took to X and wrote: “Congratulations to Pakistan’s Olympic flag bearer Arshad Nadeem for an absolute brilliant javelin performance winning a gold medal for Pakistan. His persistence & perseverance has done him & the nation proud. It is the first time any Pakistani has won an individual gold for athletics in the Olympics. He is an inspiration for our younger generation.”

Babar Azam’s tribute

Pakistan’s current white-ball captain, Babar Azam, also joined in celebrating Arshad’s monumental success.

“After 30 long years, the gold is back in Pakistan! Huge congratulations to @arshadnadeem29 for this incredible achievement. You’ve made the entire nation proud,” Babar posted on X.

Naseem Shah’s praise

Fast bowler Naseem Shah praised Arshad, noting how every Pakistani is filled with pride and how he has become an inspiration for future generations.

“It was worth staying up late to watch @ArshadOlympian1 win GOLD with an Olympic record… 92.97!! You’ve made history as the first individual athlete from Pakistan to win gold. Every Pakistani is proud of you, inspiring the next generation,” Naseem wrote.
