On Tuesday (August 13), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled a revised schedule for Team India‘s upcoming home season. The adjustments primarily affect the venues for the T20I series against Bangladesh in October and the T20Is against England early next year, reflecting logistical considerations and venue availability.

T20Is against Bangladesh

According to the press release by the BCCI on their social media account on X, the first T20I between India and Bangladesh, originally scheduled for October 6 in Dharamsala, has been relocated to Gwalior due to renovations at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association. Gwalior’s Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium will now host its first international match since 2010, a historic game where Sachin Tendulkar became the first male cricketer to score a double century in ODIs.

“The first T20I between India and Bangladesh, initially set to be held in Dharamsala on 6th October 2024, will now take place in Gwalior owing to upgrades and renovation work being carried out by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in the dressing rooms.  The match in Gwalior marks the inaugural international fixture at the city’s new stadium – Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium – and the first since the historic India-South Africa ODI in 2010, where the legendary Sachin Tendulkar became the first male cricketer to score a double century in ODIs,” the statement reads.

Changes for England T20I series

The schedule for England’s tour of India in January 2025 has been adjusted, swapping the venues for the first two T20Is. Initially planned for Chennai, the series opener will now be held in Kolkata on January 22, with Chennai hosting the second match on January 25. This change was made at the request of Kolkata Police due to Republic Day preparations, with the BCCI ensuring both cities can host the matches smoothly.

“The Board further announces a swap in the venues of the first and second T20Is against England. Chennai, originally scheduled to host the first T20I will now host the second while Kolkata will host the opening T20I instead of the second, as announced earlier.  The dates for the first T20I (22nd January 2025) and the second T20I (25th January 2025) remain the same. The venue change was necessitated following a request from Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal regarding their prior Republic Day commitments and obligations,” the statement added.

India’s Test series: A marathon of cricket excellence

Amid these T20I series adjustments, India will also engage in three crucial Test matches against New Zealand at home, followed by an intense five-Test series against Australia. These encounters, scheduled between the Bangladesh and England T20I series, promise to be a litmus test of India’s cricketing mettle, setting the stage for a season brimming with high-stakes action and memorable performances.
