On Day 2 of the first Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai cricket fans were left in disbelief as Virat Kohli decided to not use a DRS after being given out by the on-field umpire that resulted in his unfortunate dismissal.
Virat Kohli’s dismissal sparks controversy over umpire’s call
Kohli, who had just begun to settle in at the crease, attempted to clip the delivery, on the ball of Mehidy Hasan Miraz, through the on-side but was struck on the pads. Umpire Richard Kettleborough raised his finger, declaring Kohli out after a brief discussion with Shubman Gill. Despite a clear uncertainty surrounding the call, Kohli opted against a review after conferring with his teammate.
However, replays revealed a critical detail: Ultra Edge indicated a faint spike, suggesting that the ball had brushed Kohli’s bat before hitting his pads. The controversy heightened as fans voiced their frustration over the decision, believing that Kohli had been wrongly dismissed. Kohli’s innings came to a close at 17 runs off 37 balls, which included two boundaries. His exit sparked an outpouring of reactions on social media, with many expressing their discontent and labelling the decision as a significant error by the officials.
