In a thrilling finale to the group stage of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, Nicholas Pooran‘s breathtaking century led the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) to a dominant 74-run victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW), securing their spot in the playoffs. The match, played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, was the 30th and final fixture of the group phase, and Pooran’s dazzling performance was the highlight of the day.
Nicholas Pooran’s century powers Trinbago Knight Riders’ massive total
Batting first, Trinbago Knight Riders posted an imposing 211/5 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks largely to Pooran’s scintillating knock. The left-hander blazed his way to 101 runs off just 59 deliveries, smashing 9 fours and 8 towering sixes. His aggressive strokeplay yielded a phenomenal strike rate of 171.19, with his century coming up in the 14th over. This was Pooran’s first century of CPL 2024 and the second-fastest of the tournament, propelling him to become the second-highest run-scorer of the season behind South Africa’s Quinton de Kock.

For his match-winning knock, Pooran was rightly named Player of the Match. His century not only earned him personal accolades but also propelled his team to a crucial win, pushing them up to third place in the CPL 2024 standings.
Pooran’s innings not only set a formidable target for the opposition but also pushed his tally to 413 runs in just 10 matches, including this century and two half-centuries, a testament to his brilliant form throughout the tournament.

Trinbago’s bowling unit seals the victory
In response, the Guyana Amazon Warriors struggled to gain momentum and were bundled out for 137 in 18.5 overs. Despite several attempts, none of the GAW batters managed to cross the 50-run mark, with their innings faltering under sustained pressure from the TKR bowling attack.
Terrance Hinds was the pick of the bowlers for Trinbago, delivering an outstanding spell of 3 wickets for just 17 runs in his 4 overs. His economy rate of 4.20, along with key wickets, broke the back of the Warriors’ chase. The bowling unit, ably supported by Hinds, restricted the Guyanese side, securing a comprehensive win for the Knight Riders.
With the group stages now concluded, the focus shifts to the playoffs. Trinbago Knight Riders will face Barbados Royals in the first eliminator on Wednesday, October 2. The Knight Riders will be looking to carry forward their momentum from this dominant win into the high-stakes knockout phase as they aim to clinch another CPL title.
