In an electrifying session of cricket, India’s bowlers showcased their dominance, dismantling the Bangladeshi batting lineup and setting up a manageable target of 95 runs for victory on Day 5 of the Kanpur Test. With this win, India stands on the brink of clinching the series 2-0, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Early breakthroughs and solid resistance

The Indian bowlers struck early, with Ravichandran Ashwin sending back first-innings centurion Mominul Haque cheaply, giving India the upper hand. Following that early setback, Shadman Islam and Najmul Hossain Shanto displayed commendable resistance. The duo mixed caution with aggression, quickly adding a 50-plus partnership that seemed to stabilize the innings.

However, the turning point came when Bangladesh’s skipper, Mominul, attempted an ill-advised reverse sweep against Ravindra Jadeja. This reckless shot opened the floodgates for the Indian bowlers, triggering a rapid collapse in the Bangladesh lineup.

Bangladesh’s rapid collapse

From a promising position of 91/3, Bangladesh faltered dramatically, losing four wickets for just three runs. Jadeja was the architect of this collapse, claiming three crucial wickets, while Akash Deep accounted for Shadman’s dismissal. Jasprit Bumrah then returned to the attack to add further pressure, picking up two vital wickets.

As the innings neared its conclusion, it appeared that Mushfiqur Rahim and Khaled Ahmed had managed to stabilize the innings enough to take the visitors into lunch at nine down. However, Mushfiqur’s attempt at a reckless shot resulted in a lost middle stump, leaving Bangladesh all out for 146.

Plenty of time for India to chase

With 62 overs left in the day, India will have ample time to chase down the target of 95 runs. The Indian batting lineup, buoyed by their bowlers’ performance, will be eager to wrap up the match and secure the series victory in front of an ecstatic home crowd. As fans anticipate a thrilling finish, all eyes will be on the Indian batters to deliver the goods and seal the win.
