In a jubilant celebration reminiscent of Rohit Sharma’s iconic style, Faf du Plessis lifted the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) trophy after leading Saint Lucia Kings to victory against Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final. The moment, filled with exuberance, showcased not only the team’s triumph but also du Plessis’s infectious enthusiasm as he celebrated with his teammates.

The Kings clinched the CPL title in a thrilling final, and Du Plessis, donning a broad smile, gathered his teammates around him on the podium. He raised the trophy high above his head, mimicking Rohit’s celebration at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, and encouraged his team to join in the festivities. The atmosphere was electric as players danced and cheered, creating an unforgettable scene for fans and spectators alike.

“Happy for the guys, they have been here for a long time”: Faf du Plessis

Put in to bat first, the Warriors posted a total of 138/8 in 20 overs. However, the target of 139 proved to be insufficient as the Kings chased it down with 11 balls to spare. Roston Chase, who made a significant contribution with both bat and ball, was awarded the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 39 (22) and 1/13 in his two-over spell.

“Happy for the guys, they have been here (Sammy and Co.) for a long time. Think 10 or 15 years they have been waiting for the trophy to come home. Very happy with the bowling effort. At the toss I wasn’t quite sure what to do and I felt like when they posted 138, when we walked off we were positive. I think in both the innings, last 2-3 overs really made the difference,” Du Plessis said in the post-match presentation.

“The group of guys here, no superstars, we had different guys putting their hand up at different stages of the competition, so as a team I am really extremely proud of the guys. There was an excitement at the start of the competition in St Lucia about is this gonna be the season. First CPL trophy and it is a great achievement,” he added.
