Robin Uthappa has been appointed as India’s captain for the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes tournament. The announcement was made by Cricket Hong Kong on Saturday (October 12), confirming that Uthappa will lead a squad featuring several former Indian stars, including Kedar Jadhav, Manoj Tiwary and Stuart Binny.

Hong Kong Sixes 2024: Tournament Details

The Hong Kong Sixes, known for its fast-paced and action-packed matches, will be held at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong from November 1 to 3. This marks the return of the tournament after a seven-year hiatus. The six-a-side format offers a unique twist on traditional cricket, with shortened innings and aggressive gameplay, making it a fan-favourite for its high entertainment value.

India’s squad for the tournament comprises experienced players, many of whom have previously represented the country at the international level. Uthappa, known for his explosive batting and tactical acumen, is expected to bring a competitive edge to the side. Kedar Jadhav, Stuart Binny, and Manoj Tiwary, all seasoned players will add depth and strength to the squad.

India’s pool and rivalry with Pakistan

India have been slotted in Pool C, alongside arch-rivals Pakistan and the UAE. The highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for November 1, adding extra excitement to the tournament’s opening day. The match is expected to draw significant attention as both teams are eager to showcase their skills in this high-intensity format.

Meanwhile, Pool A will feature South Africa, New Zealand, and hosts Hong Kong, while Pool B will see Australia, England and Nepal compete. Pool D includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Oman. With teams from 12 nations participating, the tournament promises a thrilling contest as they vie for the championship.

 Tournament Structure 

The competition will follow a structured format, with 12 group-stage matches set to determine the quarterfinalists. Following the group stages, there will be six Bowl Matches, leading up to the quarterfinals. The semi-finals for both the plate and main draws are scheduled for November 3, with the tournament culminating in the Bowl Final, Plate Final and Cup Final, all taking place on the same day.
