On Day 4 of the intense first Test match between India and New Zealand, Rishabh Pant sent the cricket world into a frenzy with a massive six off Tim Southee. This powerful hit came during India’s second innings. Pant’s blistering shot was a game-changer, showcasing his aggressive intent as he anchored India’s batting alongside Sarfaraz Khan.

India’s strong comeback in the second innings

New Zealand set a daunting challenge for India after piling on 402 runs in their first innings, securing a significant lead of 356 runs. Their performance put immense pressure on India, whose first innings ended dismally at just 46 runs. New Zealand’s commanding lead forced India into a tight spot, requiring a stellar effort in the second innings to avoid a defeat.

At the lunch break on Day 4, India made a strong comeback, amassing 344 runs for the loss of just three wickets. Pant’s aggressive strokeplay combined with Sarfaraz’s sublime form gave India hope. While Pant’s half-century was crucial, it was Sarfaraz who stole the show, scoring his maiden Test century. Sarfaraz remained unbeaten at 125 off 154 balls, decorated with 16 boundaries and 3 sixes.

As Day 4 headed into the lunch break, India are only 12 runs behind New Zealand’s first-innings score. With Pant and Sarfaraz still at the crease, the match poised on a knife-edge.
