“These things happen naturally, organically”: Bowes

Bowes’ innings was pivotal in securing victory for his team, emphasizing his potential as a future star in international cricket. His performance is expected to earn him recognition and possibly a return to the national side as selectors look to build a strong squad ahead of upcoming international fixtures.

“These things happen naturally, organically. You don’t plan for it or try to do it, so I’m glad it was my day,” Bowes said during the innings break.

“It was nice to get most of them [the deliveries] out of the middle and hit it around the park. It started off really nicely so I just kept going and it was working so I didn’t try to rein it in too much and just kept the foot on the gas.

“It might sink in over the next day or two, but obviously a great day here at Hagley and a good occasion to do something special,” he added.

Bowes last played for the Black Caps in 2023. The 32-year-old has so far scored 99 runs in six ODIs, with a highest score of 51. In T20Is, he has clubbed 187 runs across 11 innings, with the help of a half-century against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.
