Rabada claimed nine wickets across both innings, including a brilliant 6-46 in Bangladesh’s second innings. His efforts helped dismiss Bangladesh for 307 on Day 4, leaving South Africa with a target of just 106 runs to chase. Rabada’s contribution wasn’t just limited to this match. In the process, he also achieved the milestone of 300 Test wickets in record time, further solidifying his status as one of the premier fast bowlers in modern cricket. His spell not only broke the back of Bangladesh’s batting lineup but also marked his 15th five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Mehidy Hasan’s defiant knock in vain for Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s innings saw a brave effort from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who top-scored with 97, nearly pulling off a century under pressure. His k nock was vital as Bangladesh’s lower order crumbled around him. Mehidy’s innings ended when he attempted to ramp Rabada but only managed to edge a catch to slip. Rabada’s spell was ruthless, as he cleaned up the tail quickly, including the dismissals of Nayeem Hasan and Taijul Islam, leaving South Africa in control. South Africa’s chase was comfortable, with their batters calmly knocking off the required runs. The victory by eight wickets was not only an emphatic statement from the visitors but also highlighted their all-around strength, particularly Rabada’s dominance with the ball.

Bangladesh struggle and South Africa’s response led by Kyle Verreynne

In their first innings, Bangladesh managed to score only 106 runs. South Africa’s bowling attack, led by Rabada, proved too challenging for the Bangladeshi batters. Rabada, Wiaan Mulder, and Keshav Maharaj each claimed three wickets, with Mulder’s early breakthroughs setting the tone for the innings. Despite Mahmudul Hasan Joy‘s resistance (30 off 97 balls), Bangladesh collapsed, losing wickets regularly.

South Africa’s first innings began with early stumbles, with Taijul wreaking havoc on the top order, picking up five wickets. However, Kyle Verreynne‘s determined knock of 114 runs off 144 balls, supported by Wiaan Mulder‘s half-century (54 off 112), steered South Africa to a total of 308. Despite losing wickets regularly, Verreynne’s solid innings gave South Africa a 202-run lead.

Trailing by over 200 runs, Bangladesh’s second innings began on shaky ground, with Rabada once again making early breakthroughs. Hasan Joy (40), Najmul Hossain Shanto (23) and Mushfiqur Rahim (33) showed resistance, but it was Mehidy Hasan’s crucial knock of 97 runs that kept Bangladesh in the game. Jaker Ali also contributed with a gritty 58, allowing Bangladesh to post 307 and set South Africa a target of 106 runs which the visitors successfully chased in the end.
