The incident occurred on the last ball of the 24th over of New Zealand’s first innings, bowled by Ashwin. The delivery, turning down the leg side, seemed to be an ordinary one. Young attempted to glance it away but got a slight touch off the glove, which Rishabh Pant caught behind the stumps. Initially, Pant did not appear too confident about the appeal, but Sarfaraz, positioned at short leg, was certain that Young had edged the ball.

Sarfaraz urged skipper Rohit Sharma to take a review, and with support from Ashwin and Virat Kohli, Rohit decided to go for it. The decision turned out to be a masterstroke as the UltraEdge technology showed a clear spike off Young’s glove, confirming the edge. This quick decision-making helped India secure a crucial breakthrough, sending New Zealand two wickets down early in their innings.
