Captain of Indian Women Cricket Team, Mithali Raj, gave a befitting reply to a sexist question, asked by a reporter during the pre-event dinner of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 on Wednesday.
“Do you ask them who their favourite female cricketer is?”
“I have always been asked who’s your favourite cricketer but you should ask them who their favourite female cricketer is,” Mithali questioned the reporter in response to the patronizing question.
Well, Mithali, who is also the second highest run-getter in one-day internationals in women’s cricket with an overall tally of 5781 runs in 177 matches, pointed out that the Indian women do not receive the same amount of publicity as the men.
“There’s a lot of difference because we are not a regular on television. Now the BCCI has made an effort that the last two home series have been televised and social media has improved a lot of it but there is a still a lot of catch-ups to do in terms of recognition,” she said.
Meanwhile, celebs and sportsperson on Twitter lauded Mithali Raj for giving an epic response to the reporter’s question.
