In a recent chat, Amir expressed confidence in Pakistan’s recent form, citing their back-to-back series wins against Australia and South Africa as indicators of their growing strength. He emphasized the team’s ability to perform in challenging overseas conditions, which he believes gives them an edge over India.
“The way Pakistan has been playing recently—defeating Australia in Australia and beating South Africa—shows their strength, especially in overseas conditions. Based on their recent performances, I think Pakistan will have the upper hand against India,” said Amir as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Amir highlights the absence of Jasprit Bumrah a major concern for India
While acknowledging India’s history of success in major tournaments, Amir noted that the Indian team is facing mounting pressure following recent setbacks. He highlighted the concerns surrounding the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah, India’s star pacer, who is currently recovering from a back injury and is expected to miss the initial phase of CT 2025. Amir suggested that Bumrah’s absence could significantly weaken India’s bowling attack.
“It will be a huge loss for India if Bumrah isn’t there. He has been a top bowler for India, leading the pack from the front. Without him, the Indian bowling attack is reduced to 40-50 percent of its strength,” added Amir.
The last meeting of arch-rivals in Champions Trophy
Historically, India have dominated Pakistan in World Cup encounters, maintaining a perfect win record. However, Pakistan have had a strong showing in the Champions Trophy, winning two out of the five encounters between the two teams. The last meeting in the Champions Trophy, the 2017 final, saw Pakistan beat India with a commanding 180-run victory, a match where Amir played a crucial role in dismissing key Indian batters, including Rohit Sharma (0), Virat Kohli (5), and Shikhar Dhawan (21).
