Marnus Labuschagne is generally known for his patient and temperamental batting and has a reputation to provide stability to the team’s innings amidst continuous fall of wickets on the other end. However, in the recent encounter between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes at the Gabba, the cricketing world saw a different glimpse of the ace Australian batter.
Marnus Labuschagne hits the ball out of the ground in an unconventional manner
The 30-year-old who recently made a comeback in his Big Bash League (BBL) squad after being part of the Australian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India was playing his first match of the BBL season for the home side.
After winning the toss, Hurricanes won the toss and invited Heat to bat first. Labuschagne arrived on the crease after Nathan McSweeney went back to the pavilion early. After scoring an emphatic half-century off 31 balls, it was time for Labuschagne to change the gear.
On the last delivery of the 15th over, Labuschagne converted a full length ball from Riley Meredith into a low-lying full toss by stepping aside towards his off-stump and pushed the ball towards fine leg for a six. The crowd received the unconventional shot from Labuschagne in a remarkable manner and appreciated him for the shot.

Labuschagne’s solid batting display puts Heat in a comfortable position
The Brisbane Heat posted a competitive total of 201/6 in their 20 overs, showcasing a solid team effort with key contributions from several players. Captain Usman Khawaja provided a strong base with a steady 23 off 32 balls, while Matt Renshaw played a quickfire knock of 40 off 32 balls before being run out.
However, it was Labuschagne who was the standout performer for Heat with the bat and added 77 off 48 balls to anchor the innings towards a grand total. The innings saw a couple of quick dismissals, with Max Bryant falling to Mitchell Owen and wicketkeeper-batter Jimmy Alsop being caught off Nathan Ellis. Ellis was the most successful bowler for the opposition, claiming 3 wickets by removing Khawaja, McSweeney, and Alsop. Marcus Bean and Mitchell Owen also took vital wickets for the hurricanes to restrict the Heat’s total.
