Melbourne Renegades kept their playoff hopes alive with a thrilling three-wicket win over Brisbane Heat at Docklands Stadium in Match 38 of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25. Jake Fraser-McGurk’s scintillating 95 off 46 balls proved to be the match-winning performance as the Renegades chased down a target of 197 with two overs to spare, knocking Brisbane Heat out of the tournament.

Brisbane Heat Innings

The Heat posted a formidable 196/4 after being sent in to bat. The innings was powered by contributions from Jack Wood (45 off 27) and Tom Alsop (42 off 26), both showcasing their ability to clear the ropes. Matt Renshaw chipped in with a brisk 40 off 22, while Nathan McSweeney anchored the top order with 29 runs. The late flourish from Max Bryant (12 off 5) added crucial runs to the tally.

For the Renegades, Adam Zampa (4-0-29-2) and Callum Stow (4-0-31-2) stood out with the ball, providing key breakthroughs to keep the target within reach.

Melbourne Renegades Innings

The Renegades began their chase aggressively, with Josh Brown smashing 32 off 11 balls to give the team a flying start. However, it was Jake Fraser-McGurk who stole the show with a breathtaking 95, featuring five fours and eight towering sixes. His knock kept the Renegades in control despite a flurry of wickets at the other end.

Lower-order contributions from Fergus O’Neill (16 off 6) and Thomas Stewart Rogers (2 off 2) helped the Renegades cross the finish line with 12 balls remaining.

For Brisbane Heat, Paul Walter (4-0-23-2) was the most economical bowler, while Spencer Johnson and Michael Neser picked up two wickets each but struggled to contain the Renegades’ onslaught.

Result

The Renegades won by three wickets, securing two vital points. With this victory, the Will Sutherland-led side stay in contention for the finals, while Heat’s journey in the BBL 2024-25 comes to an end.
