Rohit Sharma’s presence at the Wankhede Stadium’s 50th-anniversary celebration event created a buzz, but a heartwarming moment with a young fan became the highlight. The incident, where the child initially ignored Rohit’s fist bump but later returned to complete it, went viral.

At the anniversary celebration on Sunday (January 19), Indian cricket captain Rohit’s presence created excitement among the attendees. However, a sweet interaction with a young fan turned out to be the highlight of the event. Sitting between Sachin Tendulkar and Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit, after signing the cricket bat for his young fan,  extended his hand for a fist bump with a child who had approached him.

To everyone’s surprise, the child ignored the gesture, leading to a chuckle from Rahane. Moments later, the child ran back and completed the fist bump, leaving Rohit and the audience delighted. This adorable exchange was captured on video and quickly went viral, resonating with cricket enthusiasts and fans worldwide. It reflected Rohit’s approachable nature and ability to create memorable moments, even off the field.

Meanwhile, Rohit was recently named captain of India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to begin on February 19, 2025. The team, featuring stalwarts like Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant, is seen as a strong contender for the title.

India’s campaign begins on February 20 against Bangladesh in Dubai.  A high-voltage encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan is scheduled for February 23, followed by their final league game against New Zealand on March 2. The tournament holds significant importance as India will aim to reclaim the title they last won in 2013. Meanwhile, Pakistan, the host and defending champion, is keen to replicate their 2017 success when they defeated India in the final at The Oval, London.
