In the 24th match of the SA20 2025, between Pretoria Capitals (PC) and Joburg Super Kings (JSK), at SuperSport Park in Centurion, cricket fans were treated to a breathtaking display of fielding brilliance. Will Smeed of Pretoria Capitals produced a moment of magic on the field, taking a stunning catch to dismiss Evan Jones, leaving the spectators in awe.

Will Smeed’s spectacular catch in the 12th Over

The remarkable moment unfolded in the 12th over of the Joburg Super Kings’ innings when left-arm off-spinner Senuran Muthusamy delivered a teasing fuller-length ball, wide of the off-stump. Jones, attempting an aggressive shot, went hard at it but mistimed his stroke, slicing the ball towards sweeper cover. Smeed, showcasing exceptional athleticism, sprinted toward the ball and, at the very last moment, executed a sliding catch on his knees to complete a stunning dismissal. Jones was left disappointed as he walked back to the pavilion, scoring 9 runs off 8 balls, including a solitary six.

Here is the video:

This was Muthusamy’s second wicket of the match, having earlier dismissed Wihan Lubbe in the 8th over. Lubbe, struggling to find form, attempted an aggressive sweep shot but failed to middle it. The ball found Eathan Bosch at long-on, who completed a fine catch while sliding to his left. Lubbe’s scratchy innings ended at just 3 runs off 11 deliveries, as Muthusamy continued to make an impact with his crafty spin bowling.

Joburg Super Kings crumble under pressure

The Super Kings, batting first, endured a dismal outing with the bat, managing only 99 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The Capitals’ bowlers dominated the innings, with Migael Pretorius leading the attack by claiming three crucial wickets. The Super Kings’ batters struggled to build partnerships, ultimately posting a below-par total.

Chasing a target of 100, the Capitals approached their innings with composure and sealed a convincing victory by 6 wickets. Despite a commendable effort from JSK’s right-arm medium-fast bowler Lutho Sipamla, who took three wickets, his performance was not enough to change the outcome of the match. The Capitals reached the target comfortably, finishing at 100/4 and securing an important win in the tournament.
