The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday (February 2) witnessed a star-studded presence for the fifth and final T20I between India and England, with several Bollywood celebrities and notable dignitaries gracing the occasion. Among them was Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who later engaged in a conversation about his most cherished cricketing memories.

Aamir Khan’s choice: Favourite cricket player and most memorable game

Following the match, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on social media in which Aamir spoke about two of his most unforgettable cricket moments. The 59-year-old actor’s top pick was the ICC ODI World Cup final 2011, played at the same venue – Wankhede Stadium – where India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets to lift the coveted trophy after 28 years. His second most cherished cricketing moment was Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell Test match in 2013 at Wankhede.

“I think my most memorable match would probably be the 2011 World Cup final that India won. It was such a special day for all of us, and no one will ever forget that day. The second most memorable match for me was when Sachin retired. I was actually here (at Wankhede Stadium) for that game too,” Aamir said.

Further elaborating on his admiration for the cricketing legend, Aamir called Sachin his number one favourite cricketer.

“Sachin is someone I’ve been a huge, huge fan of. I think the one person I truly look up to is Sachin. He’s my number one favorite cricketer and always will be,” Aamir concluded.

Tendulkar, who retired from international cricket in 2013, remains the highest run-scorer across all formats. He amassed a staggering 34,357 runs in 664 matches, including 164 fifties and a world-record 100 centuries. His contributions to Indian cricket continue to inspire generations of players and fans.

India’s dominant win in the fifth T20I against England

Meanwhile, team India delivered a commanding performance in the series-deciding match, amassing a mammoth total of 247/9 in 20 overs. The highlight of the innings was Abhishek Sharma’s scintillating 135 off 54 balls, setting a record for the highest individual score by an Indian in T20Is.

In response, England struggled to gain any momentum and collapsed for just 97 runs in 10.3 overs, resulting in a crushing 150-run victory for India. This emphatic win sealed the five-match series 4-1 in India’s favour. With the T20I series concluded, the focus now shifts to the three-match ODI series between India and England, set to begin on Thursday, February 6, in Nagpur. India will look to carry forward their winning momentum, while England will aim to regroup and make a strong comeback in the 50-over format.
