The ongoing season of SA20 2025 is marked by a number of stellar performances and majestic displays on the outfield from the players which showcases their commitment and resolve to ensure victory for their team. One such incident occurred during the eliminator of the prestigious competition between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings as Faf du Plessis takes a breathtaking catch to dismiss David Bedingham and prove yet again as to why he is one of the finest to play T20 cricket even at the far end of his career.

Faf du Plessis’ blinder sent David Bedingham back to the pavilion

The incident occurred after Sunrisers were invited to bat first by the Super Kings. Sunrisers’ openers Tony De Zorzi and Bedingham were set to give Sunrisers a flying start with their explosive batting. However, the Super Kings had plans of their own and it was not long before the two openers were on their way back to the pavilion.

On the 5th over of the Sunrisers innings, Bedingham hit a full-length delivery from Imran Tahir hard but failed to give the ball enough elevation. The ball sailed towards mid-off while Bedingham was hoping that it would land past Du Plessis. However, the 40-year-old skipper of the Super Kings dived to his left and grabbed the ball in the middle of the air to take a scintillating catch and mark the end of Bedingham’s innings.

The catch came at a crucial time since consecutive dismissals of two set batters sent the pressure back into the Sunrisers camp. The Sunrisers went down from 46/0 to 48/2 within 1 over. However, an empathic performance from Marco Jansen with the bat to score 62 runs off 40 balls stabilized the Sunrisers innings and paved the way for a competitive total of 184/6 in 20 overs.

Heroics from Du Plessis failed to save the day for Super Kings

Despite displaying impeccable acrobatics to take the catch and an opening partnership with Devon Conway in which the two batters added 40 runs to the team’s total in 4.2 overs, the Super Kings failed to get past Sunrisers challenge in the eliminator and fell short of the target by 32 runs to hand over a win to Sunrisers in the all-important match.

Wickets kept falling at regular intervals for Super Kings, star wicket-keeper batter Jonny Bairstow was the only one who could add some crucial runs to team’s total through his 37-run knock off just 17 balls. But without constant support from the other hand, he could not save the Super Kings innings as the side from Johannesburg could only forge a total of 152/7 in their 20 overs. With this defeat, Super Kings’ SA20 2025 campaign has come to a disappointing end.
