Yesha Sagar, an Indian-origin Canadian model and cricket presenter, left the 2025 season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) midway due to a contract dispute with the Chattogram Kings franchise.
Sagar’s sudden departure added to the controversies surrounding BPL 2025, which was marred by reports of payment issues with foreign players.
Yesha, who resides in Toronto, Canada, was working as an anchor for the Chattogram Kings. She was responsible for pre-match and post-match presentations, as well as sponsorship-related activities, similar to what Mr. Nags is to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Yesha’s association with the franchise was well-documented on her social media, where she has a significant following, including over a million followers on Instagram. Fans admired her unique presentation style and engaging content.
Contract violation allegations against Yesha Sagar
However, tensions arose between Yesha Sagar and the Chattogram Kings, leading to a legal notice being issued to her by the franchise. The Kings accused Sagar of failing to fulfill her contractual obligations, specifically citing her absence from an official sponsorship dinner and her alleged failure to complete necessary sponsorship shoots and promotional shout-outs.
According to reports, Samir Kader Chowdhury, the owner of Chattogram Kings, stated that Sagar’s actions violated Clause 9 of her contract, causing financial and reputational damage to the franchise. The notice stated that despite being officially invited, Yesha failed to attend the sponsor dinner and neglected to complete the necessary sponsor shoots and promotional shout-outs.

Yesha Sagar’s response and departure from the BPL 2025
In response to the legal notice, Yesha chose not to issue a public statement. Instead, she opted to leave Bangladesh. She returned to India and is currently busy in hosting the Legends 90 League.
While the Chattogram Kings maintain that Yesha breached their contract, the model-tuned-anchor has not yet provided her version of events. The full details of the dispute remain unclear, and only Sagar knows the real story behind her departure.
Broader issues in BPL 2025
Yesha’s departure is not the only controversy to plague the BPL this season. The Durbar Rajshahi franchise faced severe criticism after failing to pay its overseas players. This resulted in the team fielding an all-Bangladeshi lineup in a match against the Rangpur Riders, violating the league’s rules that require a minimum of two foreign players per team. These incidents have cast a shadow over the BPL, raising concerns about the management and financial stability of some of the franchises.
