England’s pace wizard Jofra Archer is known for his pace and consistency with the bowl. The 29-year-old gave the fans a peek of his prowess with the bowl as he bowled a brilliant over against Afghanistan in an all-important clash for England to keep their hopes alive in the Champions Trophy 2025.
Jofra Archer surprises Afghan batters
The incident occurred during the 4th over of the Afghanistan innings as they elected to bat first after winning the toss. Archer had already troubled Afghan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zardan with his fast-paced deliveries and lateral seam movement.
Gurbaz was the first one to succumb as he failed to deal with an in-swing delivery from the Engl9ish pacer and mistimed it which hit the bails instead. However, it was not all for Archer as he struck once again in the same over, this time it was the top-order batter Sediqullah Atal who could not read a good-length ball from Archer pitched in with a deadly line and length. The bail hit his pads and the umpire straight away gave him out. Atal tried to save his innings and decided to review the decision but could not escape the inevitable.
Consecutive dismissals from Archer put further restrictions on Afghanistan who were already restricted in the first 5 overs. Afghanistan could only garner a total of 39 runs in the 1st power play which had put further pressure on Afghan batters to score some quick runs and pave the way for their team to reach a respectable total.

A must win situation for England
The washout of the match between Australia and South Africa has simplified the path for both teams, who now need to win their remaining matches to progress from Group B and secure a place in the semi-finals. The loser of today’s match will be eliminated from contention.
For England, the situation is particularly dire. After their defeat to Australia, they must now win their crucial match against Afghanistan to stay alive in the Champions Trophy 2025. A loss would almost certainly end their tournament campaign, leaving them with no chance to advance. With their semi-final hopes hanging by a thread, England’s players face immense pressure to deliver a strong performance. They cannot afford any more slip-ups and must capitalize on every opportunity to defeat Afghanistan and keep their dreams of progressing intact.
