The semi-finalists for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 have now been confirmed, though the exact matchups will only be decided after the final Group A match. The four teams that have made it to the knockout stage are India and New Zealand from Group A, and Australia and South Africa from Group B. Interestingly, this is the same set of teams that reached the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, setting up yet another thrilling battle among the world’s top cricketing nations. India, who have been dominant so far, will feature in the first semi-final scheduled to take place in Dubai on Tuesday, March 4, while New Zealand will compete in the second semi-final in Lahore on Wednesday, March 5.
Potential Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final matchups
The upcoming Group A match on Sunday will determine the final positions of India and New Zealand in the table, which in turn will decide the semi-final matchups. If India secures a win and finishes at the top of Group A, they will face Australia, the second-placed team from Group B, while New Zealand will then take on South Africa, the Group B table-toppers. However, if New Zealand emerges victorious and takes the top spot in Group A, they will play against Australia, while India will face South Africa in the other semi-final. Regardless of how the matchups shape up, both semi-finals are set to be high-intensity encounters, with all four teams having world-class players capable of delivering match-winning performances.

South African legend AB de Villiers predicts the finalists
Speaking on his YouTube channel, South African cricketing great Ab de Villiers was asked by a fan to predict the finalists of the 2025 Champions Trophy. While acknowledging the competitiveness of the semi-finals, he backed India and South Africa to make it to the final, setting up a repeat of the T20 World Cup 2024 final between the two nations.
“It’s tough to predict, but I have a gut feeling we will see an India vs South Africa final. It could be just like the T20 World Cup final last year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if history repeats itself (with both teams meeting again this time ),” De Villiers remarked.
With India aiming for their third ICC Champions Trophy title and South Africa seeking their first major ICC trophy since 1998, a potential rematch between the two sides in the final could be a blockbuster showdown. However, Australia and New Zealand – both experienced in ICC knockouts—will be eager to break this prediction and claim the coveted title themselves. As the tournament heads into the business end, all eyes will be on the final Group A match to determine the semi-final fixtures and potential road to the final.
