Virat Kohli has created massive controversy in the cricket fraternity ever since he gave candid comments over the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)‘s newly introduced family cap rule. The policy, initiated after India lost 1-3 against Australia in the Tests, restricts players’ nearest families – wives and kids – to accompany them only for 14 days on assignments lasting more than 45 days. Kohli expressed his frustration, emphasizing the importance of family support in maintaining players’ mental well-being and performance during long tours.

Speaking at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)’s Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, Kohli shared his thoughts on the emotional toll of extended tours. “It’s very difficult to explain how grounding it is to just come back to your family every time you have something intense happening on the outside,” he said. Kohli contended that families couldn’t be held responsible for players’ performances and disapproved of the lack of awareness behind such policies. “People who have no control over what’s going on are brought into conversations and put out at the forefront,” he added.

Anushka Sharma’s cryptic social media post
Shortly after Kohli’s remarks made headlines, his wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, shared a cryptic post on social media that many interpreted as a show of support for her husband. Her post was a reflection on perception and identity, and she wrote, “A different version of you exists in the minds of everyone who knows you. The person you think of as ‘yourself’ only exists for you, and even you don’t really know who that is. Every person you meet, have a relationship with, or make eye contact on the street with, creates a version of ‘you’ in their heads.”
