New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has formally announced the White Ferns squad for the highly awaited three-match T20I series against Australia, which will be played between March 21 and 26, 2025. The release of the team is met with anticipation among fans since a number of prominent players are returning to international cricket, bolstering New Zealand’s squad for the high-profile Trans-Tasman confrontation.

Sophie Devine and Amelia Kerr rejoin White Ferns

One of New Zealand’s most experienced all-rounders, Sophie Devine, will return to action after a well-being break that has kept her out of recent tournaments, including the Super Smash, Women’s Premier League (WPL), and the home series against Sri Lanka. Her return will bring immense firepower to the White Ferns’ batting line-up, as well as on-field leadership experience.

Another significant pick-up for New Zealand is the return of ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year Amelia Kerr, who has just come off a brilliant campaign in WPL 2025. Kerr was central to Mumbai Indians’ championship-winning campaign, taking 18 wickets and standing out as one of the standout performers in the tournament. The star all-rounder has not appeared for New Zealand since the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final, when she came up with a match-winning performance.

Providing additional depth to the team is the return of veteran pacer Lea Tahuhu, who has recovered completely from a December hamstring injury. Tahuhu’s pace and swing will be important in facing Australia’s strong batting order.

Suzie Bates to remain interim captain

With Sophie Devine relinquishing captaincy after the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, veteran batter Suzie Bates will carry on leading the White Ferns in the temporary role. Bates has been in fine touch lately, scoring 99 runs at a strike rate of 33 in New Zealand’s T20I series against Sri Lanka. Her extensive experience and leadership qualities will play a crucial role in leading the team against their bitter rivals.
