Shimron Hetmyer’s match-changing catch of MS Dhoni helped Rajasthan Royals (RR) clinch a thrilling six-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2025 match held on Sunday  (March 30) at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati. This nail-biting encounter showcased the intensity and unpredictability of T20 cricket, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the very last ball.

Nitish Rana shines for Rajasthan Royals

The Royals set a competitive target of 183 runs, led by Nitish Rana’s explosive innings of 81 runs off just 36 balls. His innings included 10 fours and 5 sixes, establishing a solid foundation for RR. Despite a late-order collapse, where they lost wickets quickly, RR managed to post a total of 182/9 in their allotted overs. CSK’s bowlers, particularly Noor Ahmad and Matheesha Pathirana, were effective in the death overs, each taking two wickets and limiting RR’s scoring in the final stages.

In response, CSK started their innings cautiously but found momentum through captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored a well-crafted 63 runs off 44 balls. With contributions from Ravindra Jadeja (32 not out) and MS Dhoni (16 off 11), CSK appeared to be on course for a dramatic finish as they approached the final over needing 20 runs to win.

Shimron Hetmyer pulls off a stunner in the last over

As fast bolwer Sandeep Sharma took to bowl the last over for RR, tension filled the air. The first delivery was a wide, adding to the drama. Dhoni, known for his finishing prowess, faced the second ball with high hopes from his fans. He connected well but sent the ball straight to Shimron Hetmyer at deep mid-wicket, who executed an incredible low catch to dismiss Dhoni on the first ball he faced in that over. The stadium fell silent as fans processed the shocking turn of events.

Sandeep maintained his composure throughout the over, ultimately conceding only 13 runs and sealing a remarkable victory for RR. The match ended with CSK at 176/6, falling just short of their target.
