India’s rising cricket star, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has opened up about his decision to move from Mumbai to Goa for the upcoming 2025-26 domestic season. The young batter, who has been a mainstay for Mumbai cricket, sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association earlier this week, signaling a significant shift in his career.
Reason behind the move
Jaiswal revealed that the decision was driven by personal growth and professional aspirations. Goa offered him an opportunity to take on a leadership role, which he saw as pivotal for his development. “Goa has thrown me a new opportunity and it has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India, and whenever I’m not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to make them go deep into the tournament,” Jaiswal was quoted as saying to the Indian Express.
A difficult goodbye to Mumbai
Acknowledging the impact of Mumbai on his career, Jaiswal expressed gratitude for the city that shaped him as a cricketer. “Whatever I am today is because of Mumbai. The city has made me who I am, and all my life, I will be indebted to the MCA,” he said. Despite this emotional connection, he emphasized that the opportunity presented by Goa was too significant to ignore.
Career achievements
Jaiswal boasts an impressive domestic record with Mumbai, having scored over 3,700 runs at an average of 60.85 in 36 first-class matches since his debut in 2019. His performances have earned him recognition at the international level, including being India’s leading run-scorer in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year.

Challenges in recent times
The past season with Mumbai was not without its struggles for Jaiswal. He faced criticism after a poor performance against Jammu and Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy and missed another match due to ankle pain. These hurdles may have influenced his decision to explore new opportunities.
Goa’s ambitious plans
The Goa Cricket Association played a crucial role in securing Jaiswal’s transfer as part of its efforts to strengthen its squad following promotion to the Elite division of the Ranji Trophy. With Jaiswal at the helm, Goa hopes to make significant progress in domestic cricket.
