Gautam Gambhir has never backed down from a battle on the field. The fierce batsman never gives an inch and does not expect to be given any.
The 35-year-old Gambhir was an integral part of the World Cup-winning squad in 2011 and several other important triumphs for India including the inaugural 2007 World T20.
However, he was also involved in several heated moments on the field of play.
Not long ago, visuals of him getting into a heated argument with Virat Kohli became the talk of the town and he also got embroiled in a verbal spat with Manoj Tiwary. The stout southpaw did not even spare the arch rivals Pakistan when he gave it back to Shahid Afridi. He also sledged the Australian veteran player Shane Watson. Gautam Gambhir is off late not up to the scheme of things when we talk about the national team, but his contribution for Kolkata Knight Riders is unmatchable.
Recently, Gautam Gambhir revealed the cricketer he enjoyed sledging the most and you would be surprised to know the name. The southpaw revealed an interesting anecdote in season 2 of “Breakfast with Champions” when asked about the same. He promptly said, “Shane Warne was one”.
“I never played against him in international cricket but during the IPL, I thought I did sledge him a lot. He gave it back and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I still remember telling him next time, he should make sure he should send the text to the right person,” he added.
In case, you are not aware of the text connotation, Warne had sent this text out to his ex-wife, Simone Callahan, by mistake: “Hey beautiful, I’m just talking to my kids, the back door’s open.”
Simone, was in Melbourne while the cricketer was in England at the time the text was sent.
According to an interview, she had given back in 2007, Simone immediately shot across a response: “You loser, you sent the message to the wrong person.”
“I am absolutely devastated but it was the wake-up call I needed. I’d been very suspicious for some time that he was up to his old tricks,” she had said. “Then I got the text by mistake . . . the leopard doesn’t change his spots.
Warne had later issued a statement and said Simeone was factually incorrect.
“Unfortunately, I find it necessary to release a statement due to Simone’s latest paid factually incorrect interview with New Idea,” Warne had said. “We have been divorced for over a year. Simone and I finally separated nearly two months ago on August 5 when we left Spain and before Simone’s planned departure with the children back to Australia.”
