In a significant leadership shift, a star all-rounder has officially been named the new captain of the England Women’s cricket team, taking over the reins from Heather Knight. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the appointment following Knight’s resignation after a challenging nine-year tenure that concluded with a 16-0 Women’s Ashes series whitewash.
England unveils new captain of the Women’s team
Notably, England have named the talented Nat Sciver-Brunt as the new captain of the Women’s side. Sciver-Brunt, a seasoned all-rounder with 259 international appearances, will lead England across formats in partnership with newly appointed head coach Charlotte Edwards.
Her leadership credentials have been built over a stellar career. She first captained England in an international fixture during the 2021 T20I series against New Zealand and later led the squad during the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The all-rounder’s recent performances underline her readiness for leadership. She secured the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award for both 2022 and 2023 and featured in the ICC Women’s ODI and T20 Teams of the Year in 2023. She currently holds the No. 3 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings.
