In what turned out to be a pulsating clash in the 49th match of IPL 2025, Punjab Kings edged out Chennai Super Kings by 4 wickets in a high-scoring thriller at Chepauk. While the evening had plenty of fireworks with the bat, it was a moment of fielding brilliance from Dewald Brevis — dubbed ‘Baby AB’ — that had everyone out of their seats and may go down as one of the most remarkable catches in IPL history.
‘Baby AB’ Dewald Brevis plucks a jaw-dropping catch to Shashank Singh
It was the 17th over of Punjab’s chase, and the game was teetering on a knife’s edge. Ravindra Jadeja tossed a short one to Shashank Singh, who had been striking the ball cleanly and looked poised to finish strong. Shashank pulled it ferociously over midwicket, thinking he had found the boundary. But then, magic unfolded.
Brevis stationed at deep midwicket leapt up and plucked the ball mid-air. Realizing he was headed over the ropes, he showed extraordinary presence of mind: he tossed the ball back into play before landing. But it didn’t end there. As he leapt again to catch the rebounding ball, momentum again forced him toward the boundary. So, he launched it skyward once more, sprinted back in, and finally clutched the ball securely inside the rope on his third attempt.
The on-field umpires went upstairs, replays rolled from every angle, and after some tense moments, the catch was ruled fair. Shashank had to walk back for 23 off just 12 balls, and Brevis had just etched his name into highlight reels for years to come.

Shreyas Iyer’s composed charge and PBKS’ gritty finish
Despite Brevis’ fielding heroics, the Punjab Kings stayed composed, riding on a captain’s knock by Shreyas Iyer. Chasing a target of 191, PBKS lost Priyansh Arya early, but Prabhsimran Singh (54 off 36) and Iyer stitched together a fluent partnership to keep the scoreboard ticking. Iyer’s 72 off 41 — laced with 5 fours and 4 sixes — was the backbone of the innings, steering the chase expertly through the middle overs.
After Iyer’s dismissal in the 19th over, some nerves crept in as CSK picked quick wickets. But Marco Jansen and Josh Inglis held on, sealing the win with two balls to spare at 194/6. While CSK posted a competitive 190, thanks largely to Sam Curran’s blistering 88 off 47, a late collapse triggered by Yuzvendra Chahal’s stunning hat-trick (4/32) meant they fell just short of 200 — a total that might have made all the difference.
