India-Pakistan conflict: PCB suspends PSL 2025 as UAE declines hosting duties (PC: X)

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 has been suspended for an indefinite period after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) declined to host the remaining matches, following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

Reason behind the suspension of PSL 2025

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had initially planned to relocate the final eight fixtures, originally scheduled in Rawalpindi, Multan, and Lahore, to the UAE due to growing security concerns at home amid the ongoing military standoff with India.

However, multiple reports suggest that the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has denied PCB’s request to host PSL 2025 in the UAE, citing security concerns and the risk of being perceived as an ally of Pakistan during a period of heightened conflict. The UAE’s strong cricketing ties with India, having hosted previous editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and major ICC tournaments, further complicated the decision.

The PCB, in its statement, emphasized that the suspension was made on the advice of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and out of “sincere regard for the mental well-being of participating players and the sentiments of our foreign players, and we respect the concerns of their families who want to see them back home.” The board did not officially mention the UAE’s rejection in its announcement.

No new dates for the resumption of PSL 2025

The PSL’s abrupt suspension follows the postponement of the IPL for one week, as both cricketing giants grapple with the fallout of the border conflict. No new dates have been announced for the resumption of the PSL, leaving the future of the 2025 season in jeopardy.

With the situation at the India-Pakistan border continuing to deteriorate, the fate of major cricket tournaments in the region remains uncertain.
