Cricket Ireland have announced their 14-member squads for the forthcoming home One-Day International (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) series against the West Indies. The selection, confirmed on Wednesday, sees seasoned opener Paul Stirling retained as captain across both formats, signalling a focus on continuity while also injecting fresh talent into the national setup.
Schedule for the West Indies tour of Ireland 2025
The white-ball clashes are set to commence later this month, marking the West Indies’ first tour of Ireland since 2019. The tour is also part of the West Indies’ broader European campaign, which includes a series against England.
The ODI series will open proceedings, with the first match scheduled for May 21 at Clontarf. Subsequent ODIs will be played at the same venue on May 23 and 25. Following the 50-over encounters, the focus will shift to the T20I format, with all three matches hosted at Bready on June 12, 14 and 15.
Ireland names three uncapped players in their ODI squad
The selection panels have opted for a balanced approach, incorporating three uncapped players into the squads. Among the new faces are 22-year-old top-order batter Cade Carmichael and 24-year-old pacer Tom Mayes, both of whom have earned their maiden call-ups to the ODI squad. Their inclusion comes on the back of impressive performances in domestic competitions and for the Ireland Wolves development squad. Fast bowler Liam McCarthy, another consistent performer on the domestic circuit, has been rewarded with a spot in both the ODI and T20I squads, marking his debut in the shortest format.
However, the squads also feature a notable absence. Mark Adair, Ireland’s leading fast bowler, has been omitted from the ODI squad as he continues his recovery from injury. Despite this setback for the 50-over format, Adair is expected to regain fitness and feature in the T20I series in June. Interestingly, his younger brother, Ross Adair, has been included in the T20I squad, adding a compelling family narrative to that part of the series.
While introducing new blood, the selectors have ensured the squads retain a strong core of experienced international players. Key figures such as Andrew Balbirnie, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker and Joshua Little provide essential stability and balance across both formats. The all-round capabilities of Curtis Campher and George Dockrell offer valuable flexibility to the team composition. Left-arm spinner Matthew Humphreys also continues to receive backing from the selectors, featuring in both squads.
