As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to resume from May 17 following its suspension due to escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan, uncertainty continues to cloud the participation of several overseas stars. Among them, Australian speedster Mitchell Starc‘s future in the tournament appears uncertain, with strong indications that he may not return to join the Delhi Capitals (DC) for the remainder of IPL.
The Capitals had roped in Starc with high hopes, banking on his fiery pace to lead their bowling attack. However, the unexpected geopolitical developments have disrupted the season’s flow. Sources have now revealed that Starc is unlikely to rejoin the squad, citing concerns over safety and scheduling.
Mitchell Starc lashes out at an Indian fan
In the midst of this uncertainty, a video has surfaced that shows Starc visibly agitated at the Delhi airport during his exit from India. Captured by a local fan, the clip shows the left-arm quick instructing the individual to “go away” when approached for a video. The incident, which has gone viral on social media, reflects the tense environment surrounding the abrupt halt of the league.
The footage reportedly comes from the departure terminal in Delhi, likely taken while Starc was boarding his flight back to Australia. With emotions running high and travel chaos ensuing for overseas players, the Australian pacer’s frustration seemed to have reached a tipping point.

Massive setback for Delhi Capitals as key players opt out
The absence of Starc is not the only blow for the Capitals. Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk, another key asset in the DC lineup, is also not expected to return for the remaining fixtures. Citing ongoing security concerns, the youngster has opted out, leaving the franchise scrambling for options.
To fill the gap, DC had recently announced the inclusion of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman as Fraser-McGurk’s replacement. However, Rahman has flown to Dubai to join Bangladesh’s national team for a T20I series against UAE, and while nothing official has been confirmed, it appears unlikely that he will return for the remainder of the IPL.
