Here’s why the T20I series against Australia is very crucial for India

India and Australia will be playing in the three-match T20I series against each other starting from October 7.

The Aussies know that they have to show up in the series otherwise Virat Kohli boys will end up steamrolling them once again like ODIs.

Team India is already at the top in Tests, ODIs and will now be eyeing to reach the pinnacle in the shortest format of the game. The Men in blue currently lies at a lowly fifth in T20Is and the upcoming series will be the first step towards improving it.

Let’s have a look at the impact the T20I series will make on the ICC team rankings:

If India win 3-0:

In this case, New Zealand, who are at the top of the rankings will find themselves just 3 points ahead of the Indians. The series win will set India up to become the best in the world across all formats when the Blackcaps take on India in November. Australia would then lose 8 points but still remain on 7th position.

Australia win 3-0:

If the Aussies whitewash India, they will rise to the third spot ahead of the West Indies and just a point behind Pakistan. If India loses 3-0, they will move down to the seventh position.

If India win 2-1:

If the Indian team clinch the series 2-1, they will still be at the number 5 position with 2 points gained. They will be then just one point behind England. Australia will lose 2 points but remain at 7th position.

If Australia win 2-1:

Australia winning the series 2-1 means that they will go to number 5 and finish on 114 points while India will fall to the 6th spot and be 1 point behind the Aussies.
