In a pulsating encounter at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, hosts United Arab Emirates edged past Bangladesh by 2 wickets in the second T20I of the Bangladesh tour of United Arab Emirates 2025, leveling the 3-match series 1-1. Chasing a daunting target of 206, UAE rode on a blistering innings from Muhammad Waseem to pull off one of their most memorable T20I victories, setting the stage for a series decider on May 21.

Bangladesh set a mammoth target

After being asked to bat first, Bangladesh put up a commanding total of 205/5 in 20 overs, thanks to solid contributions from their top and middle order. Tanzid Hasan led the charge with an aggressive 59 off 33 balls, laced with 8 fours and 3 sixes. He was well supported by Litton Das, who anchored the innings with 40 runs, while Towhid Hridoy added a vital 45 off just 24 balls during the death overs.

Despite the high run rate, UAE bowlers managed to grab a few breakthroughs, with Muhammad Jawad Ullah emerging as the pick of the lot, claiming 3 wickets for 45 runs. Muhammad Saghir Khan also chipped in with 2 wickets, but overall, the home side’s bowling unit struggled to contain the flow of runs.

Chasing 206, UAE needed a fast start—and they got just that. Opener and captain Waseem played a knock for the ages, smashing 82 off just 42 deliveries, including 9 fours and 5 towering sixes. His explosive innings laid the perfect foundation for the hosts, who maintained a brisk scoring rate throughout the chase.

Though wickets kept falling at regular intervals, cameos from Muhammad Zohaib Khan (38 off 34), Haider Ali (15 off 6), and Dhruv Parashar (11 off 7) kept UAE in the hunt. Despite some tight overs from Rishad Hossain, who finished with 2 for 28, and Shoriful Islam’s tidy spell of 2 for 34, Bangladesh couldn’t apply consistent pressure in the final overs. UAE crossed the finish line with just one ball to spare, finishing on 206/8 in 19.5 overs.

With the series now evenly poised at 1-1, both teams will be eyeing a strong finish in the third and final T20I on May 21. While Bangladesh will look to bounce back and reclaim dominance, the spirited UAE side will draw confidence from their historic run chase and the roaring home support. Player of the Match was deservingly awarded to Waseem for his match-winning knock that turned the tide in UAE’s favor and kept the series alive.
