In a major setback to their playoff ambitions, Gujarat Titans (GT) went down by 33 runs to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at their home ground in Ahmedabad. The loss has left Shubman Gill‘s side vulnerable, with just one league game left and 18 points from 13 matches. While they are still in a strong position to qualify for the playoffs, the top-two finish – which offers an extra lifeline via Qualifier 1 – is now hanging by a thread.
Despite the pressure, GT still have a mathematical shot at sealing a spot in the top two. However, their fate is no longer in their hands alone.
How Gujarat Titans can finish in the top two of IPL 2025 points table
As it stands, the Titans have 18 points from 13 matches. Close on their heels are Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), both with 17 points from 12 matches. GT’s final fixture is against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and the outcome of that match will determine their route forward.
Equation 1: Win against CSK
Should GT defeat CSK in their last group game, they’ll finish with 20 points. But even then, they will need help from other teams.
If either RCB or PBKS lose one of their remaining two matches:
GT can finish second on the table.
- Final tally: RCB – 21, GT – 20, PBKS – 19
OR
- PBKS – 21, GT – 20, RCB – 19
In both sub-scenarios, GT remain in the top two, provided one team slips up.
Equation 2: Loss against CSK
If Gujarat stumble against Chennai, they will stay on 18 points, making their path to the top two extremely difficult. In that case, two possible situations could still favour GT:
Scenario A:
- Mumbai Indians beat PBKS
- PBKS lose to Delhi Capitals
- RCB lose both their remaining games
- Points Table: MI – 18, GT – 18, PBKS – 17, RCB – 17
Scenario B:
- PBKS beat MI but lose to DC
- RCB lose both matches
- Points Table: PBKS – 19, GT – 18, RCB – 17, MI – 16
These are slim margins, but not impossible. GT will be hoping for a major collapse from both RCB and PBKS to sneak through.

The worst-case outlook for the Titans
If both RCB and PBKS go on to win their final two games, they’ll reach 21 points each. In such a scenario, Gujarat will be pushed to third place – irrespective of their result against CSK.
Even if GT lose to CSK, and RCB and PBKS win just one game each, they can still edge ahead with a better net run rate, forcing GT to settle for third.
