In a moment that shifted the momentum in Punjab Kings‘ favour during their crucial Indian Premier League 2025 encounter against Mumbai Indians, Harpreet Brar dismissed former MI captain Rohit Sharma in the 10th over with the help of a spectacular diving catch by Nehal Wadhera at long-on.
Nehal Wadhera’s dazzling forward dive ends Rohit Sharma’s uneasy knock
In the 10th over Brar, who had been probing around the leg-stump line, tossed one just outside leg, tempting Rohit to take the aerial route. The former MI skipper, who had been struggling to time the ball throughout his 21-ball stay, backed away to create room and attempted to loft the delivery over the long-on boundary. However, he failed to get the desired connection, as the ball came off the bottom edge of the bat and looked destined to land safely.
That’s when Wadhera intervened with a piece of brilliance, sprinting in from the boundary line, judging the trajectory impeccably, and diving forward at full stretch to pluck the ball inches from the turf. The difficulty of the catch was immense, given the dying pace of the ball and the awkward angle at which it descended. Yet Wadhera showed tremendous athleticism, commitment, and presence of mind to hold onto the catch even as he tumbled over.
Rohit’s dismissal for 24 runs off 21 deliveries, with two boundaries and one six, meant Punjab had successfully removed a key pillar of Mumbai’s batting at a critical juncture. The strike was not only important in terms of breaking a growing partnership but also halted MI’s acceleration as they eyed a big finish. Brar’s timely breakthrough, aided by Wadhera’s fielding brilliance, has now placed Punjab firmly in the driver’s seat.

PBKS vs MI: Middle-order collapse halts Mumbai’s momentum
In the crucial 69th match of IPL 2025 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, Mumbai found themselves at 113/4 in 12.5 overs after being put in to bat by Punjab Kings. The innings began with promise as openers Ryan Rickelton (27 off 20) and Rohit (24 off 21) added a brisk 45-run stand, with Rickelton showing early aggression. However, Marco Jansen and Harpreet Brar triggered a slowdown by dismissing the openers, while Vijaykumar Vyshak dealt further blows by removing Tilak Varma and Will Jacks in quick succession.
Suryakumar Yadav, holding firm with an unbeaten 32 off 22 balls, remained the key hope for a strong finish. Mumbai’s run rate hovered around nine, but the loss of wickets in clusters hampered the momentum. With big hitters like Hardik Pandya around, MI will look to finish around the projected 190 mark, but Punjab’s disciplined bowling, especially Vyshak’s 2/21 and Brar’s vital breakthrough, has kept them in control heading into the death overs.
