The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has reached its final leg, with the playoffs set to begin on May 29. Punjab Kings (PBKS) have stormed into the top two after a commanding win over Mumbai Indians (MI), thereby securing a spot in Qualifier 1. Their opponents in the Qualifier 1 will be decided after the final league match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). If RCB win, they will face PBKS in the high-stakes clash. However, if they lose, Gujarat Titans (GT) will step in to challenge Punjab.

Robin Uthappa predicts who will play the final of IPL 2025

Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has made his prediction for the IPL 2025 final. Speaking on JioHotstar, Uthappa expressed strong belief in the capabilities of RCB and PBKS to reach the summit clash. He emphasized the importance of timing in a tournament, particularly gaining momentum and motivation just before the playoffs. Uthappa pointed out how Punjab had a strong start to their campaign, faced some struggles during the middle and end of the league stage, but ultimately made a strong comeback to qualify for the playoffs. He praised Punjab’s batting unit, suggesting that despite inconsistencies in their campaign, their batting lineup has remained a key strength that could help them in the crucial knockout stages.

“You want momentum at the right time in the tournament and the right kind of motivation before going into the play-offs. Punjab started the tournament brilliantly, struggled towards the end of the league stage but later put up a brilliant performance to make it to the playoffs. Punjab’s batting has looked very strong,” Uthappa said.

Uthappa highlighted that Arshdeep Singh hasn’t yet hit peak form, which could be a blessing in disguise. He reckoned that Arshdeep is due for a standout performance and will be highly motivated to deliver when it matters most.

“For me, Arshdeep Singh has not performed well yet, and that is a really good sign for Punjab. It means he is going to be a big performer and he will be desperate to play in important matches. I am sure the final is going to be between RCB and Punjab,” added Uthappa.

Uthappa highlights key advantage for RCB

Uthappa further explained why RCB are strong contenders to reach the final. He pointed out the boost the team has received from Josh Hazlewood‘s return to the squad. The veteran batter also spoke about Virat Kohli’s importance in RCB’s chase strategy. He said: “RCB will get a big advantage with the arrival of Josh Hazlewood. He has pace and he has started bowling well. Virat Kohli will have to play the role of chase master, as we know — has to bat for 20 overs. When he does that, it puts pressure on the opposition, especially in the death overs.”
