Here’s why MS Dhoni used to give trophies to youngsters after winning any series

MS Dhoni has always been known for his smartness and calm nature on and off the field. His presence of mind and street smart skills decoded the strategies of various teams on many different occasions.

He has been one of the best skippers of Team India with 3 ICC trophies in his kitty and yet remains grounded even after stepping down from the captaincy in January this year.

Every time his team won a trophy, Mahi handed it over to the youngsters’ and himself moved at the corner as the victory celebration went on.

Not only die-hard fans but cricket experts too many times praised him for his humble gesture. He later revealed why he often did so.

At the launch of a book based on Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar‘s story written by sports journalist Vimal Kumar, Dhoni opened up and revealed why he gave the trophies to the younger members of the team after any series victory.

In the video Dhoni said,

“It’s just that, if there is any youngster in the team who has performed well in the series and you hand him over the trophy, it works as an appraisal for him. You are appreciating what he has done. It gives them a lot of confidence. At the end of the day, we have won the trophy. It doesn’t matter who holds it. But if I hand it over to some youngster and I’m getting benefitted that he could perform better in future by this gesture then it’s a win-win situation for us.”

Though MS Dhoni has stepped down from the captaincy with Virat Kohli stepping into his shoes, the tradition hasn’t changed and Kohli too passes on the trophy to the younger team members.

Team India recently won 4 bilateral ODI series and after every victory, Kohli stood at a corner like Dhoni while the youngsters remain at the centre, lifting the trophy.
