The saga that began with a single tweet in December 2011 finally concluded in June 2025, when a long-standing troll of India batting legend Virat Kohli on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) was permanently suspended.

Young Virat Kohli’s warning to an ill-mannered troller

It all started when Kohli, then a rising star in Indian cricket, publicly reprimanded the user, known by the handle @Ishaan3,  for using abusive and inappropriate language against him. Kohli, addressing the issue head-on, tweeted:

“Your account has been reported and will be deactivated soon. dont tweet if u wana use foul language (sic),”

At the time, few imagined that this brief exchange would set off a bizarre 14-year-long online standoff. Kohli’s followers, while supportive of his response, could only watch as the troll continued his online antics with impunity. In the years that followed, @Ishaan3 made it his mission to repeatedly mock Kohli, not just through tweets but by directly referencing the 2011 warning as a badge of honor.

14 years of provocation by a troll account on X

Rather than backing off after Kohli’s warning, @Ishaan3 doubled down. What began as sporadic trolling turned into a consistent campaign of mockery, targeting Kohli across cricketing highs and lows. The troll, far from being intimidated, used Kohli’s 2011 message to gain attention. In 2016, he tweeted, “Still I am on Twitter bro… 5… panache saal ho gaye,” as if to gloat over having outlasted Kohli’s warning. The behavior continued unchecked. In 2020, the troll again resurfaced with a tweet that read, “10 saal hogaye Kohli bhai,” ridiculing the fact that his account was still untouched by platform moderators.

The story picked up steam once again in mid-June 2025, when several users on X began sharing screenshots that showed the @Ishaan3 account had finally been suspended. While there was no formal communication from the platform regarding the exact time or reason for the suspension, the disappearance of the once-active account sparked a frenzy among social media users. Many saw this as a long-overdue act of justice, especially given the consistency and personal nature of the trolling directed at one of India’s most celebrated athletes.

Kohli fans celebrated with funny memes 

As the news of the suspension spread, Kohli’s fans turned to X not with outrage, but with humor and satisfaction. Years of pent-up frustration were channeled into a wave of sarcastic posts, memes, and witty commentary. One user remarked, “Just like RCB’s IPL trophy, i never thought that Ishaan’s account will get suspended. But 2025 is a year, full of surprises and Ishaan’s account got suspended after 13 years,” drawing a humorous comparison between two long-awaited moments in Indian cricket lore. Another wrote, “Kohli waited 18 years for IPL 14 years to get his account suspended 2025 is a good year for Kohli,” subtly praising Kohli’s patience and perseverance.

Other reactions followed a similar tone, laced with irony and amusement. One post joked, “Finally account suspended after 14 years Was Kohli waiting for the IPL trophy?,” alluding to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru‘s maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title.

While Kohli himself has remained silent on the matter in 2025, the internet responded with overwhelming amusement and support. Screenshots of the suspended profile became viral content overnight, and Kohli’s 2011 twee,  still visible and untouched,  took on legendary status, symbolizing a victory, albeit delayed, against online hate.
