As the Indian Premier League (IPL) goes into its 11th edition, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be back after serving two-year suspensions. The BCCI had asked franchises how many players they will like to be retained.
A proposal has come up at the IPL governing council meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday which might allow the franchises to retain as many as three players ahead of next year’s auctions.
If this proposal sees the light of day, both CSK and RR would be able to pick up the players of their choice from Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) and Gujarat Lions (GL), the two teams that replaced them in the last two editions of the IPL.
So now players like MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, Brendon McCullum and Faf du Plessis will be up for grabs at the auctions next year.
Meanwhile, according to reports as in ESPNCricinfo, the next season of the IPL will be held between April 4 and May 31.
