In a game that had its fair share of thrills, spills, and laughs, Vicky Ostwal found himself at the heart of a moment that cricket fans won’t forget anytime soon — for both cricketing brilliance and full-blown comedy. Raigad Royals marched into Qualifier 2 of the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) 2025 after a clinical six-wicket win over Kolhapur Tuskers, but not before a mid-pitch mix-up delivered one of the most bizarre run-out escapes the league has ever seen.

Vicky Ostwal survives run-out after comedy of blunders

The drama unfolded in the 13th over of the chase, with Raigad looking steady and Ostwal anchoring the innings like a seasoned pro. But in a blink, things went haywire. After pushing the ball through the offside, Ostwal called for a risky second run — and BAM! — ran straight into his batting partner. Both crashed to the ground like bumper cars at a funfair, leaving the entire stadium holding its breath.

The throw came in to the keeper, who inexplicably decided not to take the bails off himself. Instead, he tossed the ball to bowler Atman Pore — who looked just as surprised and fumbled it like a bar of soap. A second throw, this time from Rahul Tripathi, missed the stumps by a mile. By the time Kolhapur figured out what went wrong, Ostwal was back on his feet, smiling sheepishly and very much not out. It was chaos, it was hilarious, and most importantly for Raigad — it was a lifeline.

Ostwal’s knock powers Raigad Royals to Qualifier 2

Ostwal didn’t let the madness faze him. He dusted himself off, reset, and went on to craft a calm, calculated 74 off 54 balls — an innings packed with elegance, intent, and just enough grit to keep Kolhapur at bay. With five boundaries and a sweetly timed six, he made sure his earlier tumble remained a talking point, but not a turning point.

Earlier, the Tuskers posted a competitive 164/7 thanks to Ankit Bawne’s patient 57, but they couldn’t quite push the Royals to the edge. Nikhil Kadam (3/35) and Tanay Sanghvi (2/32) bowled with discipline and guile, while Ostwal picked up a wicket too — as if his night wasn’t eventful enough already.

During the chase, support came in the form of a fiery 39 from Siddhesh Veer and a cool-headed unbeaten 37 from Niraj Joshi, who sealed the win with time to spare.
