17th match of the Major Cricket League (MLC) 2025 between Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAS) and Washington Freedom (WAS) ended in one of the most dramatic finishes the league has ever seen. In an edge-of-the-seat encounter, WAS crossed the line with a last-ball finish.

Washington Freedom snatch last-ball win as Jason Holder fumbles the catch

With one run needed off the last ball, Andre Russell charged in to bowl to Glenn Phillips. It was a missed yorker, and Phillips struck it firmly straight to Jason Holder at mid-on. For a moment, it looked like the match was heading for a super over— the ball hit Holder’s hands, popped out, and he dived desperately to grab it on the rebound. But heartbreak followed as the ball slipped through again.

As soon as the ball made contact with the bat, the batters sprinted for the single. The crucial drop handed them the opportunity they needed. Phillips completed the run, sealing a sensational last-ball win for WAS. While the Freedom dugout erupted in wild celebrations, the Knight Riders were left stunned — their players dropping to the ground in disbelief and despair.

Andre Fletcher’s century in vain as Washington clinch nail-biter

In a high-scoring match at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Washington won the toss and chose to bowl first against Los Angeles. Los Angeles got off to a perfect start as openers Unmukt Chand and Andre Fletcher added a record 130 runs for the first wicket. Fletcher was outstanding, scoring 104 runs off just 60 balls before retiring hurt. A powerful finish from Andre Russell helped LAS post a big total of 213 runs.

In reply, Mitchell Owen once again gave Washington a fiery start with a quick 43. Useful partnerships followed, with Glenn Maxwell and Phillips keeping the chase on track. But as the game neared the end, Washington lost their way and the match looked like it might slip out of their hands. However, they managed to hold on and won the match by 5 wickets — sealing the victory on the final ball.
