Jasprit Bumrah may be India’s most feared fast bowler, but when it comes to romance, it was his wife Sanjana Ganesan who delivered the perfect bouncer, with words.
Sanjana Ganesan’s witty take on Jasprit Bumrah’s marriage proposal
During their appearance on the talk show Who’s The Boss, hosted by Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra, the couple shared a lighthearted anecdote about their marriage. Sanjana, a well-known sports presenter, recalled how Bumrah once suggested they skip the formalities and elope. Her hilarious retort – “Tum run-up mein bhi nahi bhaagte, tum mere saath kya bhaagoge?” (“You don’t even run during your run-up, how will you elope with me?”) – had the hosts and audience in splits.

The joke was a reference to Bumrah’s famously short and composed bowling run-up, known across the cricket world for its unorthodox yet deadly effectiveness. This playful exchange revealed the easygoing and humorous bond the couple shares off the field. Married since March 2021 and now parents to a baby boy born in 2023, the pair continues to be one of cricket’s most adored power couples.

Bumrah’s brilliance overshadowed by team India’s collapse against England
While social media was buzzing over their playful chemistry, on the cricketing front, Bumrah was all business during the first Test against England at Headingley. The 31-year-old speedster displayed his class with a sensational five-wicket haul in the first innings, once again underlining why he’s ranked the No. 1 Test bowler in the world. However, despite his early fireworks, India faltered in the fourth innings, allowing England to chase down a stiff 371-run target. Bumrah bowled tirelessly, sending down 44.4 overs in the match, and notably went wicketless in the second innings, a reflection not of poor bowling but of lack of support at the other end.
As India heads into the second Test at Edgbaston with the series at 0-1, all eyes are on whether Bumrah will take the field or be rested. The team management including chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir had earlier announced that Bumrah would play only three of the five Tests in the series to preserve his fitness. However, they tactically chose not to reveal which games he would skip. Without Bumrah, the bowling attack looks considerably less threatening. Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep may be waiting in the wings, but neither carries the experience or intimidation factor of Bumrah.
