Not many people are aware of the fact that, had actress Saiyami Kher not opted for acting as her career, she would have definitely been a part of women’s cricket team.
Saiyami was passionate about cricket from childhood and even represented Maharashtra at the state level. She was a medium-fast bowler and was once in consideration for selection in the Indian Womens’ National Cricket Team.
It was her inclination towards acting that made her quit cricket. But, she still loves to play cricket on Sundays’.
The stunning diva has revealed that she is obsessed with cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar and wishes to play the game with him.
Not only that, Saiyami also said that she’s heard Sachin cooks well and would love to eat the food that he prepares. She said, “I’d love to play cricket with Sachin. He cooks well too, so I’d like to enjoy the food. This is being dreamy but there’s no harm in that. I’m obsessed with Sachin!”
So ‘clean-bowled’ is Saiyami is that she never allows anything to come between her and Sachin — not even her debut project Mirzya, which was being helmed by widely-acclaimed filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.
This story took place in November 2013, when Sachin was playing the last and 200th Test match of his career at Wankhede Stadium against West Indies in Mumbai.
Back then, Mehra had already finalized Saiyami and preparations were on in full swing, though the media was still busy speculating about who Mirza’s actress would be.
Though utterly devoted to Mirzya, Saiyami’s heart skipped a beat when she heard about Sachin’s final Test match kicking off on November 14. Come hell or high water, she had to be there, she decided.
Wasting no time, she requested her director to grant her a 5-day leave starting November 14, and a thoroughly amused Mehra agreed instantly.
What Saiyami did next will even surprise Sachin’s most die-hard fans
She went and bought herself tickets in every stand of the stadium — Sunil Gavaskar Stand, North Stand, Vijay Merchant Stand, Sachin Tendulkar Stand, MCA Stand, Vitthal Divecha Stand, Garware Stand and Grand Stand. And every couple of hours, she kept changing seats in order to enjoy the best view of the Master Blaster.
That’s not all, Saiyami even pulled some strings and managed to secure a seat that gave her the best possible view during Sachin’s historical and emotional farewell speech. From what we hear, she was sitting quite close to where the legend’s family was!
