WATCH: Virat Kohli gets out for a duck in the first innings of Kolkata Test

Team India captain Virat Kohli once again entered his name into the record books of Indian cricket history during the first Test match of the 3 match series against Sri Lanka. For the first time in his Test career, Kohli was dismissed for a duck while batting at the Eden Gardens.

Virat Kohli out for duck

Thursday (November 16) was an unusual day for the right-handed batsman as he equalled a record which he would have certainly liked to avoid. Kohli was dismissed by Suranga Lakmal for an 11-ball duck on the opening day of the ongoing Test at the Eden Gardens.

The duck was Kohli’s fifth in 2017, and the latest failure added him to the list of Indian captains with the most number of ducks in a calendar year. The Delhi lad now has joined the legendary Kapil Dev who achieved the unwanted feat in 1983 after 31 matches.

In Kolkata, Kohli was dismissed in the 11th over, when Lakmal bowled a good length delivery to the Indian skipper who tried to play a defensive shot. The ball hit Kohli’s pads and the Lankans appealed for LBW. Umpire Nigel Llong raised his finger while Kohli decided to go for the Decision Review System (DRS).

After referring the TV replay, it was learned that the ball swung towards the leg stump hitting the back-pad. Since the third umpire referred umpire’s call, Kohli had to return to the dressing room.
